For those not going to the Majura Festival, get yourself to Tropicana 5 at the Hellenic Club (HBlock for those who are more familiar with the public service name) on Friday Night.
Details: Friday 21st September 2007, 7:30pm. Tickets at the door for $30.
Promises to be a night of crazy salsa, samba and all that great stuff. For more info, check out the Hellenic Club.
Details are a bit sketchy on this one, but the Majura Festival kicks into gear this Friday 21st September 2007 in Woolley Street Dickson. For all you drivers out there, you better find alternate routes because the road is closed from 3pm Friday to 8pm Saturday Night.
Drumassult will be playing Friday night at 10pm after battle of the bands.
I hope to get a few more details before Friday, otherwise see you there at 10pm.
It’s talk like a pirate day.

This week’s PANTaSk is something that you may have already anticipated, that is to make a new creepy friend. I’m not suggesting wandering the bus interchange for hours on end, but instead you can buy the friend you need!
By the time you’re reading this, we’ve all missed the 16/09 4pm cutoff to actually be a part of the Floriade gnome-painting competition. I saw the competition today, we could have won the whole thing. Less Boony and Steve Irwin, and far more vegemite than I expected. Regrets aside, you can still buy the creepy little terracotta gnomes around town for about $10 a piece. If you ignore the whole Floriade link you can keep your keepy friend until the unsealed paint wears off.
Good times ahead, get there.

The event began with a lazy wander down a closed Adelaide avenue towards Parliament house:

This week’s PANTaSk is a simple opportunity to wander around town with a few thousand others. The Canberra Times Fun Run/Walk is on again this Sunday September 16th.
It’s $22 to enter in the walk, and a bit more for the run and they do take different routes. There will be roads closed around the lake for the event, so it’s a great chance to see a different view of Canberra with a few thousand others.
Online entries appear to have closed, but you can still enter on the day. Check the website for more details.
Get there.

There’s probably many things we could get excited about which are a tad better than a flower show. But really, its spring in Canberra and so people go a little crazy with the sudden lack of cold. Along with an apparently Australiana-themed Floriade brings some outstanding events for September and October. A few highlights:
Oh and these guys, are appearing regularly.

PANTS last crossed paths with them during the Running of the Sheep a few years ago. If you do nothing else, definately check out the crazy Kangaroo men. They’re actually called Roo’d from Icarus and are apparently appearing on 15-16 September, 29 September – 7 October. Gold.
* can you already guess next week’s PANTaSk?
I wish I didn’t think this was a great idea but I do. The Rotary Club are holding a gnome painting event in the park this weekend. Details are below.
Last time Floriade got into the gnome action, we created our own little gnome-y version of Run DMC, complete with Adidas sneakers and bling. We then went and saw the gnomes in their natural surrounds, and ours were clearly the best (aside from the very real need for some sort of sealant).
No idea what we should do this year, but we should definately get into it.
