For future reference, when you approach people with crazy halloween ideas, they generally think you’re a bit odd. The basic issue is this: We want to carve jack-o-lanterns. Once. We don’t want the effort to go unappreciated, so naturally I contacted everyone I thought might be interested in a bit of halloween decoration and offered our exceedingly unprofessional services. Here’s some highlights:
- Westfield – All mail through their online enquiry form actually bounces;
- Fyshwick markets – nil response;
- Belconnen markets – nil response;
- David Jones (Woden & City) – 3 positive responses! Helpful as they were, they’re not interested.
- Canberra Centre – positive response! They think its a good idea and have invited us to chat to them next year. We’re too late, but we’ve got more than 365 days to think about it I guess.
- Casino Canberra – nil response
Happy for other suggestions if anyone has any.
Extracts from my favourite responses:
“this is an initiative that I will not be able to support.”
“I hope you are somehow able to lift the awareness and focus on Halloween.”
“we do not have a place…where we can adequately display your artwork.”
“…on this occassion we will not be able to help you out.”
I think these people were taking the whole caper more seriously than me. But they were all actually trying to be helpful with what was admitedly an odd request.
Anyway, it’s on. Carving central will take place on Monday 30/10 provided we can source the required pumpkins. If you want in, just leave us an email at joinpants@gmail.com or leave something stunning in the comments section.
